Shepherd

Lola is a sweet gentle soul from the south, she came from Mississippi one week ago to find her forever home. Lola is an eight-month old shepard mix, she is a slender young thing, only 36lbs! We expect her to grow some more as she matures into a lady, and estimate her to weigh about 45-50lbs as an adult. Lola had surgery on her pelvis previously, she has recovered, however, we do need to monitor her activity to ensure her comfort. Lola doesn't seem bothered by anything! Oscar is a big boy with a big attitude! Around 6 years old, he came to us with Pod, but we noticed he was picking on his friend a bit. Because of this, we would recommend that Oscar either be an only cat in your home, or join another cat with a strong personality who will stand up for themselves. He previously lived with a dog, but would not do well with children since he can get overstimulated easily and does swat. Teenagers would be fine, but we wouldn't recommend anyone younger than that. Lillie is as sweet as she is beautiful! This friendly girl seems to get along with everyone she meets! At around 8 1/2, Lillie is a long haired beauty. She is incredibly friendly (and sometimes a bit of a diva). She comes right up to you, asking for attention! (In fact, she's one of those cats who it's hard to get a nice photo of because she keeps trying to walk up and rub against the camera!) Poor Salem came to us from a hoarding case where he spent most of his life in a cage. All we want is a loving home for him, where he will never have to live like that again. Salem is only about a year old, and because of how he was kept his first year of life, he is quite shy when it comes to new people. He is pretty mellow, opting to spend most of his time sleeping in bed, so he is easy to pet. Thanks to the person who rescued him, we know he likes belly rubs! Meet "the twins" as we have been calling them! These two brothers never leave each other's side - except to take a nap - is there someone out there who can open their hearts and homes to TWO sweet boys? At only around a year old, Lunar and Casper were brought in off the streets by their previous owner, who unfortunately became very ill. It is her wish for them to be adopted together, and we can see why! These guys are always playing together, and are very curious kitties! Casper (with the dot on his nose) can take a little more time to come around, but a day or two is all he needs before he acts like he owns the place. Maggie Moo is a spunky little hound mix who came here with her brother, Bobo, from Virginia. Maggie and Bobo were surrendered to the shelter, their owners were unable to care for them. She is very very sweet, playful, energetic, and is not afraid to speak her mind! Maggie is a dog who will always keep you entertained with her silly sense of humor and clever antics. Maggie is small but mighty! Like any hound dog, she is obsessed with new scents, she will likely run off and find new smells. August is a 2 year old male cat who would like a loving home to relax in! Here at the shelter, August is very scared, and his previous owner noted that he can be a little shy at first. However, it is easy to see how quickly he can warm up! August is quiet but affectionate, and while he never lived with children before, his previous owner feels that he would do well with kids over 10. He's also never been exposed to dogs, but with an equally calm dog he may do alright as well. Labrador Retriever - Shepherd

Jake is a shy young guy, a gentle giant afraid of his own shadow. He takes a little time to get to know you, but once he is comfortable with you, he will always be right at your side looking for affection. Jake has had a rough life in his two years. He came from a city shelter in Mississippi, scared to death, for a whole year. He was rescued by our southern partners, Bless their Hearts Rescue, where he was treated for heart worms. Jake's last diroban injection was 8-5-2021, the doctor recommends a retest 9 months following this last treatment. It is very important that Jake maintain's his monthly preventative care, to keep the regrowth of heart worms at bay. Jake is a healthy young dog and just needs a loving home with the patience and understanding he deserves. Harvest

Harvest is a sweet, beautiful young cat who is a little shy at first, but will come out of her shell with a loving and patient adopter! When Harvest first came to us, she spent much of her time hiding under blankets with her friend Aster. She still spends a lot of time cuddled up with other cats, sometimes in hidey holes, but once you start petting her she becomes so much more confidant! She loves having her chin scratched, and will purr to show how happy she is! She loves spending time with the other cats in her room, but we don't know think Harvest would do the best with young children or dogs. Since she's shy at first, and tends to be on the quiet side, we feel that a calm home would be best for her. Older children should be fine, as long as they can recognize when she needs some time to herself. Come meet Harvest or any of our other cats! Aster is a sweet, beautiful young cat who is a little shy at first, but quickly comes out of her shell! When Aster first came to us, she spent much of her time hiding under blankets with her friend Harvest. But she's opened up to us in no time! Now, she loves playing with catnip, and she sleeps out in the open so that she can be pet. She quickly starts to purr almost as soon as you touch her! She loves spending time with the other cats in her room, but we don't know how Aster would do with children or dogs. Since she's a bit shy at first, and tends to be on the quiet side, we feel that a calm home would be best for her. Ricky is probably one of the most affectionate cats we've ever met! We will be surprised if he's not adopted in a week or two, so be sure to fill out our adoption questionnaire to come meet him! Pocket

Domestic Medium Hair

Pocket is a beautiful, shy little girl looking for a calm, loving home! Pocket was incredibly timid when she first came to us - she spent the first few days hiding under her foster mom's dresser. Since then, she's become a lot more brave, although she's definitely on the quieter side. She loves hanging out in her cat tree, where these pictures were taken. Any place where she can curl up and relax is fine by her! But Pocket still likes to play with her cat friends, and has fun with all of the toys in her room. We don't think Pocket would do well with dogs right now since she is still a little shy. Theodora

Domestic Short Hair

Theodora came to us so shy, but she is now one of the most friendly kittens in the free roam room that she lives in! She is looking for a home just like her sister Simon. Theodora is pretty calm for a kitten - rather than joining in with her friends to play, she usually wants to be pet! She absolutely loves attention and will come right up to you to get some! She loves spending time with her feline friends. We haven't seen Theodora with kids or dogs, but feel she would likely be fine with either as long as they are relatively calm. Zoodler is one of three kittens named after kitchen utensils - Cheese Grater, his sister, is also available for adoption, and his other sister Potato Peeler already went to a loving home! Zoodler is a little shy when you first meet him - he spent the first 8 weeks of his life outside and came to us via local Animal Control. Since coming to us, we have worked to socialize him and he is like a new kitten! Zoodler loves his comfy beds and cat trees, and usually spends his time cuddling and napping. Autumn

Domestic Short Hair

Autumn may not immediately grab your attention when you go into her room - the other cats there are very "in-your-face" and she is more laid back. But take the time to meet her, and you'll fall in love! Autumn is a little under 2 years old. She is not a "typical tortie" in that she doesn't have much of an attitude. Again she's a little on the shy side, but that all changes when you start petting her. With just one touch she starts purring! Since she's on the quiet side, she likely won't do great with dogs, and we haven't seen how she is with kids, but would probably be ok with older kids. This handsome pup named Jojo came to Father John's from the local pound! He was found as a stray and his owners did not want him back. They said in the home he became protected of the couch and sometimes with his toys. Jojo loves to go on walks and really loves to sniff the grass and roll around in the dirt. Smith here came to Father John's from our partner rescue from Mississippi. He will play and interact well with other dogs but he is not just insanely playful with other dogs. Oreo is a loving young cat who would love to meet you! He's a bigger guy who used to live with lots of other cats, so he enjoys spending time with his feline friends! Cassidy is a sweet young cat, almost a year old. He came to us as a transfer from another shelter and is looking for his forever home with us! Cassidy is a great cat all around. Domestic Short Hair

Danny is just about the sweetest cat you'll meet! He is about 4 years old and would make a great addition to pretty much any home! We took Danny to an adoption event and he enjoyed being pet by kids and didn't mind most of the dogs walking around. He can be a little picky with his kitty friends - there are some that he just doesn't get along with, but others that he co-exists with with no problems, and used to live with 2 other cats. At the event, he just was held for hours and sat in laps without moving for the longest time. He was just happy to get attention! He is very laid back most of the time. Benji

Domestic Short Hair

Benji is such a loving cat who was returned to us when his owner passed away at 91. He was bonded to her, so we hope to find him a new home quickly so he can be happy and loved again! Benji loved his senior citizen owner as well as gentle children. He is an easygoing cat, so he would prefer a calmer home. While he doesn't mind sharing a space with the other cats in our free-roam room, he is not a fan of dogs - the only time he has acted in any way less than pleasant was in the company of a canine. According to his previous owner's family, "He is fistideous about cleaning himself. Benji is very loving and likes his front paws gently touched and his front bib petted as opposed to approaching to pet from the top of his head." We've found that Benji loves attention! He rolls around when you pet him, so happy to be loved. They also recommend a hooded litter pan for him, but they say he transitions well to any pan. Benji won't be here long! Apolla

Domestic Short Hair

Apolla is such a sweet young lady! She is only about a year and a half old, and has such a sad story. She was found in the walls of a house when the new homeowner moved in. It's not clear how she got there - was she a stray who found her way into an empty house? Was she abandoned by her previous owner? We'll never know, but we are so thankful that although her founder wasn't able to keep her, she was brought to us. Apolla is a little shy here at the shelter - she burrows under her blankets. We imagine that one day, she may enjoy cuddling under blankets with her adopter! She doesn't like loud noises, so a quiet home would be best for her. She likes the company of other cats, but not dogs. The woman who found her said that while she was caring for Apolla, she enjoyed playing with all kinds of toys, and would tap your leg to be petted! Like what we've seen here, she would make "biscuits" on super cuddly blankets, so if you have a cozy home, Apolla may be the right cat for you! Hi! My name is Lillie! Born and raised in Mississippi I came up to New Jersey with my friend Leah to find our forever homes! I'm on the older side, but that just means that I've left my chewing years behind me! Speaking of chewing I do need some dental work done, just something that occurs with my breed! I also have a low grade heart murmur, nothing to be too concerned about but something to get checked with vet visits! Hi! My name is Leah. I am so lucky to have made my way to Father John's from Mississippi, because now I can find my forever home! I came here with my friend Lillie, who is a little younger than me but is also looking for her forever home! What am I most excited for in my new home? Well, I hope for lots of laps to sit on! Anywhere where I can be cozy and snuggled up is perfect for me! If you've never had a dog before, that's good with me - I'm very low maintenance! I may be considered a "Senior" at 10 years old, but I still have a lot of tail wagging left in me! The vet says I am a healthy little girl, however, I am due for a dental due to a buildup of tartar and plague. This is a very common occurrence in dogs my age and my breed specifically. I also have a bilateral medial luxating patella, which basically means my kneecap pops out of place. Sasha, despite his name, is a sweet young male. His owner loved him very much but was forced to surrender him when his mother moved in as she was allergic. We are hoping to find him an equally loving home! Sasha has previously lived with other cats, a dog and a bird. He also has children visit the home, although he wasn't incredibly fond of them. Frost

Frost is a sweet young cat who came back to us when her owner unfortunately couldn't take her with him. At under 2 years old, Frost can be a little shy when you first meet her, but unlike her name, she quickly warms up! She hasn't been exposed to kids or dogs, but since she is so sweet we think she would be fine with either, as long as they are on the calm side. We do know she gets along well with cats, since she originally came to us with many and was adopted with her sister Candy Cane, who is also now looking for her forever home. Frost is very playful, and this is a great way to win her over when she's first getting to know you. Her previous owner recommends you let her come to you.
