Skywalker came to us from a local animal control and we do not have a ton of information on them. We do know that he lived with other dogs and did great! Our vet believes he is about 6 months old and about 50 pounds. He should get to be about 80-90 pounds when full grown! Skywalker loves to play in the yard and go on walks. Our beautiful Harley came to us with her sister, Maggie, who has since been adopted! Their owner became ill and was no longer able to care for them; we hope to find Harley a home just as quickly as her sister! 2 year old Harley is a sweet, gentle soul. Because of this, she's very nervous here at the shelter where there is a lot of hustle and bustle, new people and different dogs every day. It takes her a few minutes to get used to new people, but once she knows she's "yours" she will love you forever! Eli and Brady are brothers who were left behind with their siblings when their people moved. Their two brothers have found homes, and now it's their turn! Eli and Brady are both super friendly, energetic kittens, only about about 5 months old! They have medium length fur, and are just so handsome! Eli has a larger spot over his left eye, and Brady has two smaller spots over his right eye. They can be adopted together or separately, but these two sure would love to go home together so they can have a playmate! They have only lived with other cats, but we think that due to their mild (for a kitten!) personalities, they would do fine in pretty much any home - with kids, dogs, and other cats. Our beautiful River Song has been through so much in her short life! It's time to find her a true forever family who will love her for the rest of her life! River Song was adopted from another rescue as a kitten, and sadly was left behind by her owner. Since that rescue was full, we took her and the other cats she lived with, and we are so glad we are able to help these sweet babies! Moana

Tabby - Domestic Short Hair

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me, one day I'll know, if I go, there's just no telling how far I'll go - and Moana is hoping to go home with YOU! Moana is just the sweetest girl, and only about 2 years old. She was adopted from another rescue as a kitten, but she was sadly abandoned, and that rescue was full, so she and the other cats she lived with came to us. We are so excited to have them and to find their forever homes, because they are incredibly affectionate! Like the movie, Moana sometimes tries to leave the island - she will nearly run out the door of her free roam room because she is so excited to meet people! Gomez

Tabby - Domestic Short Hair

Gomez was adopted from us as a kitten, but came back recently because his home was a little too overwhelming! We are hoping to find him and his friend Mushroom calmer homes where they can be themselves. Mushroom and Gomez were adopted together, and certainly love each others' company, but do not necessarily need to go home together as long as it's the right fit. But if you're looking for two cats to love, consider adopting them both! They are shy at first but warm up and enjoy being pet and getting attention. In their previous home, Gomez and Mushroom were getting a lot of unwanted attention from the dogs and young children. They don't mind other cats, but a home without dogs (or with very calm dogs who will leave a cat alone) or young children (older children who can give cats their space would be fine) would be best for them. Gomez tends to be a little more outgoing than Mushroom, but his favorite thing to do is lounge at the top of a big cat tree! He takes a little time to warm up, but all he needs is a calmer home than before, where he won't be chased by dogs and kids, and he you will see him transform into a purring machine in no time. Bonnie is a sweet who is older lady, who is only here because her owner sadly passed away. Pedro

Pedro is a sweet senior boy who is only here because his owner sadly passed away. He and his friend Bonnie were so well loved in their previous home, we hope to find them a new family who will love them just as much! Our sweet Maggie came to us when her owner became ill and the family wasn't able to care for her any longer. She came to us with her sister Harley, and now they are both looking for their forever families! Maggie is only about 2 years old, and 50 lbs, so this girl is full grown, and just the perfect size! She absolutely LOVES attention, and she is just the sweetest girl! Maggie loves belly rubs and snuggles, but watch out - she'll give you kisses all over! Lola is a sweet 6 year old girl who is affectionate and easy going. There were some changes in her previous family that stressed her out, and now she is looking for a new home. Lola would do great in most homes - she previously lived with a large and small dog who she loved, and she doesn't mind the other cats in her free roam room here. She prefers to spend most of her time on a sunny windowsill! Lola came to us because she wasn't adjusting well to the new baby in the home, but she would always sleep with the nieces and nephews in the family when they came to visit, so we think kids who are a little older (no babies or toddlers) would make a happy home for Lola! Beagle - Rottweiler

It's time for some puppy love! Leon is looking for their loving forever homes to grow up in! Mama is a beagle/shepherd mix who will be available for adoption once she is fully done weaning her pups, and we believe dad was a rottie who lived down the street. Mom and pups came to us from Virginia, and they have been fun since day 1! We believe they will be a medium size based on what we know about mom and their current growth, but they could be a bit larger than predicted because we aren't entirely sure about dad. We are thinking the max weight would be around 60 lbs but they will likely be closer to 50. We only have Leon and two girls left for adoption. They are up to date on their age appropriate vaccines, and will be neutered at our clinic (we will give you a date to come back for no additional charge!). We are thinking the max weight would be around 60 lbs but she will likely be closer to 50. Look at this sweet face! Can you believe Emmy was found wandering without anyone to claim her? That's why we're so dedicated to finding the perfect forever home for this sweet girl! Emmy was found with another dog, Enzo, who has since been adopted. They walked right up to someone who was walking their dog! Mushroom

Mushroom was adopted from us as a kitten, but came back recently because his home was a little too overwhelming! We are hoping to find him and his friend Gomez calmer homes where they can be themselves. Mushroom and Gomez were adopted together, and certainly love each others' company, but do not necessarily need to go home together as long as it's the right fit. But if you're looking for two cats to love, consider adopting them both! They are shy at first but warm up and enjoy being pet and getting attention. In their previous home, Gomez and Mushroom were getting a lot of unwanted attention from the dogs and young children. They don't mind other cats, but a home without dogs (or with very calm dogs who will leave a cat alone) or young children (older children who can give cats their space would be fine) would be best for them. Tortoiseshell - Domestic Medium Hair

Molly is a beauty, it's insane to think that she was left behind by her previous "owners" when they moved! Their loss is our gain, as we are happy to be getting to know her since she came to us. Because of her past, it takes a little time for 4 year old Molly to warm up to people. She is a bit nervous here in the shelter; usually she can be find in a hidey hole, or a covered bed, but lately she has been more comfortable and has been walking around, a lot happier! Because of this, it may take a little time for her to re-acclimate into a home, but considering all she has been through, it makes sense that she will need some time to learn to trust people again. Wouldn't you, after being discarded like that? Luckily, after her "family" threw her out, she was brought into another rescue, and was even fostered for a few months where she lived with both a cat and small dog before coming to us! We think she would be fine in any home that is relatively calm, even with other pets, as long as her adopter gives her time to come out of her shell, and of course gives her more love than her previous "home"! We don't know how she is with kids, but we think older kids (double digits) would be best so they can give her space when she needs it. Poppy

Poppy is as sweet as his name sounds, but while he is super affectionate with people, he needs to be the only cat in the home, so we are looking for a very special adopter for this special boy! 4 year old Poppy loves to seek attention from his people! When you first meet him here at the shelter, he will probably be curled up under some blankets, but reach out your hand and he'll immediately come out, rub against you, and "flop" around, begging for pets and attention! He loves people SO much - so it's a surprise that he's not a fan of other cats! Previously adopted with his brother Jack, he was bullying him a bit in the previous home, so we believe that Poppy would be happiest as an "only" cat. Despite this, we think he would do fine with most children - he will need a little space to acclimate but in just a short amount of time he will be your best friend, purring like a motor boat! He was exposed to a calm dog as a kitten, and we think he would likely do fine with most calm dogs. Jack is one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet - just give him a little time to come out of his shell, and he'll be purring before you know it! Jack came to us with his brother, Poppy, as kittens, although as they grew older, Poppy began to bully Jack in the home. Despite this, Jack would love to go home with another cat - just not his brother! He loves hanging out with his kitty friends and would even get groomed by one of our older cats. Our handsome guy Jeff had a rough start living out on the streets for around , but now he is looking for his forever home! Jeff was part of a colony in Paterson, but when it came to TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) him, the rescue found he was just too friendly to put back! For almost half a year, Jeff was with a foster who had other cats and a small dog, and he did well there! But he still needed a home, so they transferred him to us. At the shelter, Jeff is a little scared, but he has only been with us for 2 weeks. Giving him some time to adjust will be important in his new home, but he will likely adjust a lot faster in a calm, stable home rather than a busy, noisy shelter. We think he would do well in most homes - remember that he lived with another cat and dog in his foster home, plus he does well with the cats in his free roam room here. As for kids, we think older children would be the best fit for him, somewhere around age 10 and up so they can give him his space while he adjusts. Charlie

Domestic Medium Hair - Maine Coon

Charlie, though not even 2 years old, has had quite a rough and complicated start to his life. He needs a patient, understanding owner who will love him through everything. Charlie is one of the most affectionate cats you'll ever meet! He loves to be pet, to snuggle, although he's not the biggest fan of being picked up (most cats aren't!). He hasn't been around kids before but would likely be fine because of how friendly he is. He really gets along with everyone! Charlie originally came to us with a housemate, another male cat, to be neutered at our low cost clinic because both cats were urinating around the house, and neutering typically solves this problem. However, it continued with both cats, and the owner made the decision to surrender them to us. We believed that being with the other cat was causing him to spray, so he went to a home all by himself. Even there, he continued to have this issue - he would use the litterbox, but he would also pee outside of the litterbox. His owner ruled out a UTI through their vet, but eventually made the difficult decision to bring him back to us. The odd thing is that he does not have this problem at the shelter at all. We aren't sure why he is urinating outside of the litterbox in his previous homes. Will he do it in his next home? There's no way to guarantee one way or the other. But we hope that his affectionate personality and beautiful looks will help him find the perfect family! Charlie is special, so we are hoping for a special home! You have never seen a cat as gorgeous as our Binx! His fur is so unique, it's impossible to explain in words - and he's a little camera shy, so the photos don't do him justice either! Our Goose has something unique about him - he was born with a front leg that was deformed. But it doesn't bother him, and it doesn't stop him from being affectionate and just an awesome cat! English Bulldog

Beautiful Belle came to us from a local family who were unable to care for her. Although she has some skin issues, she is a giant lovebug who just wants to play and be your baby! Skin issues are not uncommon for bulldogs, so it's not a surprise that she needs a little extra attention in that area. We are working with our vet to give her the best treatment possible, and she already looks a lit better than when she first came to us! Although her adopter will need to continue her skin treatments, she promises to give you so much love in return! Belle is about 5 years old and a little under 60 lbs. Love came to Father John's from another local rescue. She was in a foster home but Love and the other dog were not getting along. At about 7 months old, she is about 35 pounds and very shy. It's officially summertime, which means you need Ice Cream! Not only the delicious treat, but also the sweetest cat - no pun intended! This sweet kitty was found outside if you can believe that - but she hopped right into the person's arms who found her, and he brought her straight to our shelter without a problem! Here, she is so relaxed, she surely must have been owned by someone at some point! "Wow, what a fluffy cat!" That's what everyone who comes through our lobby says when they see this beauty - but that's not a giant fluffball, that's our beautiful Lulu! She's all fluff though, she only weighs about 13lbs, but looks so much bigger! Lulu came to us because her owner passed away, but she previously lived with an 8 year old child, another cat, and also a small dog! So we think she would do fine in any home. She's only about 3 1/2 years old, so she should transition pretty easily into your home and family! Her favorite spot is by the sunny window - you'll definitely need a cat tree or windowsill next to a window so she can continue looking outside and soaking up the sun! She has been through a lot, including teeth removal before coming to us, so she is ready for a loving home to finally relax in. Mountain Cur - Plott Hound

Baloo came to Father John's from a local family who was no longer able to care for him. He is about 7 1/2 years old and about 74 pounds. This cute pup lives with young kids and loved them very much! The only reason Lovey is with us is because her owner had to go into a nursing home and he had no one else to take her. Ryder

Domestic Short Hair

Ryder is a sweet boy, only about 5 years old, who would just love to curl up next to you and relax after a tough life! We don't know much about his past, but the person who rescued Ryder believes that he was originally someone's pet, but sadly was dumped. He showed up one day in the colony she cares for, and was so friendly, it's clear he wasn't feral. Unfortunately, he lost one of his eyes and the other has some limited vision, but he gets along just fine! Ryder can be a little shy at first, but just remember, we don't know everything he's been through - and clearly, he's been through a lot. With a little time and patience, he quickly become a loving, affectionate cat who just wants a comfortable place to finally relax! He would do well in any calm home where he can open up and just be himself! Ryder does have FIV thanks to his time on the streets. Our cat counselors can tell you more, but essentially he has a compromised immune system. It's important to keep him healthy and have a good relationship with your vet, but FIV cats can live a normal life and it can only be transmitted to other cats through a deep wound - so since Ryder is so sweet, there's not much to worry about there! If you are looking for an affectionate cat that will be your shadow, look no further than Brooke! She may be 12 years old, and she may have had a rough life before coming to us, but she continues to be one of the most affectionate cats you'll ever meet! Brooke came to us through local animal control when she was dumped - can you believe that?! Although her previous humans abandoned her, we are determined to find her the most loving home possible for her golden years. Brooke is a little older, so she has been overlooked for months, but one thing is for certain - she should not have to die in a shelter because terrible people abandoned her. Adopting Brooke will make all the difference in the world for a sweet cat who does not deserve the cards she has been dealt. Not only will you like Mike - you'll LOVE him! This one year old handsome guy will purr his way right into your heart! Believe it or not, Mike was a stray, being taken care of with a few other cats. But when their caretaker passed away, they went to the Jefferson Pound, and soon, Mike found his way to Father John's! And we are so happy he did, because he is amazing! We think Mike would get along in pretty much any home! It doesn't take him long to adjust, and he seems to get along with everyone he meets - even babies. In fact, a big family might be good for him, because he just wants constant attention! Husky - Pit Bull Terrier

Lovely Luna came to us through a local animal shelter when her previous owners could no longer care for her. We are loving getting to know her! This beautiful girl is about 5 years old, loves to play and lived with kids, 2 cats and a male dog! She seems to get along with everyone she meets and would do well in most homes. Luna also LOVES the water! She could be the perfect companion for someone who goes fishing, hikes by lakes, or just likes relaxing by the beach. Shepherd

Have you ever seen a dog as handsome as our Jax?! He came to us when his family was no longer able to care for him as it became apparent that the son has severe dog allergies. The family was heartbroken to give him up, and it's easy to see why - Jax is an awesome dog! Jax is about 2 1/2 years old and is about 55 pounds. We believe he is a Shepherd/Border Collie mix and is super friendly. He is so sweet and loves to go on adventures - he would be great for someone to take hiking or just on walks through the neighborhood! Although Jax is great with adults, he does not do well with younger kids and would do best in a home with one children under 13 years old. The only thing this guy loves as much as people is Krispy Kreme doughnuts - especially when they are cream filled! Redbone Coonhound

Cooper came to us from a local family who could no longer take care of him. He is a little under 2 years old and about 60 pounds. This big boy LOVES to play and does like other dogs but sometimes has opinions about them when he is on the leash. Jack and Poppy

Domestic Short Hair

Jack (grey and white) and Poppy (all grey) have their birthdays coming up and all they want is a home to call their very own! They will be 4 years old soon and just want a place to love. Jack and Poppy originally came to us as kittens, and were adopted, but sadly their adopter developed severe allergies and could no longer keep them. They were bonded as kittens, so we are hoping they can continue to live together! Poppy is on a special urinary diet, which is common for male cats. In the previous home, they both ate this food because it was easier, but Jack does not need to. Both boys are shy at first, but once they warm up to you they will be your best friends forever! They love to be pet and snuggle, and will curl up on your lap. Having a little bit of patience will pay off as they will truly form a deep and everlasting bond with you. Our sweet Willie has had quite a life! Even though he's only a year and a half old, he has already been through a lot, so now he is ready for his forever home and to feel nothing but love. Willie showed up at a kind woman's house in the winter with an injured paw. She was able to take him in and take care of him so he was able to heal up nicely! Sadly, she wasn't in the position to take in another cat, though she would have loved to, but knew she had to do what was best for Willie and help find him a new home. Our poor Chooch is so scared at the shelter! He needs a forever home soon so he can be happy again and grow up with lots of love! In his previous home, Chooch was so affectionate, he would come when called and would even sleep with his humans at night! This playful boy would also love a puzzle food bowl - he would take his dry food out piece by piece to eat it! He certainly is a character. It may look like 3 year old Sandy as burned in a fire, and we thought originally that the issue was caused by fleas, but now out vet believes he has an autoimmune disorder. It is hard to believe that Sammie has such a sad story. This lovable boy used to be someone's cat - but they left him behind when they moved, as though he were disposable. Nala has had a rough start to her life - she came from a recent hoarding case, where more than 30 animals were found living with someone in a pickup truck. You would never guess that Felix has been through what he has. He is probably one of the most loving, affectionate, social cats you will ever meet! But his story has a sad beginning. Felix came from a hoarding case, where nearly 40 live animals and, sadly, 40 deceased animals were found in a pickup truck as the person was passing through NJ. We are proud to have been able to help 6 dogs and 3 cats (as other shelters took other animals). Felix is one of them. He was scared for the first few days - understandably - but he almost immediately showed how loving and affectionate he is! Just walk into his room and he starts purring before you even pet him! We think he would do great in ANY home - he did previously live with all of those small dogs and cats, and he loves all of the people he meets. Dutchess

English Springer Spaniel

Dutchess came to us from a local family that was unable to care for her any longer. This young pup is about 9 months old and is a pure bred English Springer Spaniel and super wiggly. She can be a little shy at first but warms up quick, especially if you have some treats! Dutchess did live with another dog but seems to be a little nervous with meeting new dogs. We have been socializing her with some of our other dog friendly dogs and she is trying to figure out her own play style. With more socializing, Dutchess will become a great pup! American Bulldog

Sylas came to us from a local family who was no longer able to keep him. This handsome boy is about 105 pounds! In his previous home, he lived with kids, cats and dogs! We have noticed that really energetic dogs can be a little too much for him. Sylas is sometimes a little shy meeting new people, but he warms up fast! Nero came here with her brother, Pachanga, and after living the first few months of her life in a trailer park, we hope she will soon find her perfect forever home! Nero is about 7 months old, and can be shy at first. Unlike her brother, she generally lounges about in the open, not in a hidey hole. She will still need some time to get used to you, but we think it won't take very long for her to get comfortable with you! The people who found her and brought her to us said that she loved being pet, especially her belly and head! After sitting with her for just a few minutes, she will let you pet her, and you can just see how much she loves it! She would especially love to go home with her brother, or with another cat! Pachanga

Domestic Long Hair

Pachanga came to us with his sibling, Nero, in hopes of finding their forever homes after being found in a trailer park! Pachanga is a little more shy than Nero, usually hanging out in his hidey hole. However, we think he is just nervous here at the shelter - the person who found and brought him to us stated that he loved to be on your lap and get lots of pets! They also said he was super playful, and would love to go home with his sibling or with another cat! The good news is that Pachanga is still very young - he is only 7 months old! So we hope he will be adopted soon, so he can easily acclimate to a home. We know that with the right family, he will become more comfortable quickly, and you'll never know how shy he once was! Shepherd

Thumper came to us from a local family who could no longer take care of her. Her sister Bambi was with us as well but has found her forever home already! We hope that Thumper finds a new home just as quickly. Like her sister, Thumper is shy meeting new people but is very sweet! She did live with other dogs and kids but we would have you bring the whole family to meet her and your dog if you have one. Thumper is a little over five and orginally came from Turkey where her and her littermates were poisoned as puppies. A good samaritan was able to get them transported over to the US! Redbone Coonhound

Meet Howie! This cute boy came to us from a local gentleman who had some medical issues and had to give up his animals. Howie lived with another dogs and some cats too. We are helping them all on their journeys to find forever homes! Ricky seems to be the most shy of the 3 brothers, and will need some patience and understanding when getting to know him. He would do best in a quiet home where he is able to feel comfortable. He did previously live with small and medium dogs in addition to the other cats in the home, and we think that he would be ok with most other small, quiet animals as long as he is given enough time to adjust to his new environment. Jingles

Domestic Short Hair

If you are looking for an affectionate cat, look no further than Jingles! Nearly 9 years old, he was adopted from us as a kitten and brought back recently when his owner could no longer care for him. Jingles is the kind of cat who would fit seamlessly into any home! He loves EVERYONE he meets, and will immediately place himself in your lap! We think he would be fine with other cats and dogs, too - he is just a laid back guy! Sometimes when petting him he does give "love bites" because he is just so happy, but it's never with the intention of hurting - he's just trying to love you back! Jingles does seem to have a chronic upper respiratory infection, so we currently use a humidifier to help with his congestion. Our medical team can give you more information when you come to meet him, but his stuffy nose doesn't take away from how sweet and loving he is! Retriever

Poppy came to us from Virginia to find her new forever home. We believe she is some kind of Retriever mix and about 6-7 months old. Right now she is only about 22 pounds. We think she may be about 40-50 pounds when she is full grown. Poppy is very outgoing and loves meeting people and other dogs. Bubba came to us from Virginia to find his forever home. This handsome old man lived with 3 other dogs when his owner sadly passed away. Timmy

Domestic Short Hair

Who has the cutest pink nose?! It's Timmy! He has spent nearly all of his first 7 months of life on the streets, but now he is looking for a true home! Timmy showed up one day to a colony of cats that is cared for by a friend of the shelter. We don't know where he came from - was he dumped? Was he born there and just not noticed until he got older? Whatever happened, the caretaker recognized that he was young enough and social enough to be brought into a home. So, she fostered him for a few weeks until he was ready to come to the shelter! Because of his rough beginnings, Timmy can still be shy at first. We think he would do best in a home without young kids, but having another cat "role model" friend would be the best thing for him! He may be nervous with dogs, but if your dog is calm and quiet he would likely be alright with them. Timmy becomes affectionate once he gets to know you. He can be startled by loud or sudden noises/movements, so we are looking for a patient adopter who will allow Timmy to open up at his own pace. And while he is a sweet cat, there is one thing he doesn't like - the cat carrier! And who can blame him!?
