Mamma is such an affectionate, silly girl! Only 4 years old, she has so much love to give! Sweet Mamma came to us when her humans moved, and their landlord didn't allow pets. Our sweet Simon is so scared here at the shelter! He is used to a calm home where he could get cuddles and love, and is just overwhelmed here. Simon came to us with his friend Miss Garfunkle when their owners could no longer care for them. They both love other cats, and would love to go home together if possible! If not, a home that already has cats would make each of them happiest. We think that, since Simon is so nervous here at the shelter, very young kids and excitable dogs may be too much excitement for him. He did previously live with dogs, but they had a high prey drive and scared him, so a calm, cat-friendly dog may be a better fit with him, as long as he is given the time to acclimate. In the end, Simon just needs a loving family. You may be wondering how “Shake” got her name. It may become more obvious when you know her children’s names - Chicken Fry, Spicy Chicken, Whopper Jr. and King. It's kitten season, which means we have a ton of available kittens for adoption! The kittens pictured are just some of the cuties we have available looking for a new home. We have males and females of varying ages for you to meet! When adopting kittens, it's recommended to adopt in pairs so that they have a playmate to grow up with. Unless you have another playful young cat at home, this will keep them from getting into trouble - for the most part! Adopting a kitten is also a long-term commitment - keep in mind cats can live around 15 - 20 years! Kittens may be available for our "Foster-to-Adopt" program, or they may be adopted based on their age - our adoption counselors will explain the difference when you come in. Either way, be prepared to take a kitten home when you come to meet them! Eli and Brady are brothers who were left behind with their siblings when their people moved. Their two brothers have found homes, and now it's their turn! Eli and Brady are both super friendly, energetic kittens, only about about 5 months old! They have medium length fur, and are just so handsome! Eli has a larger spot over his left eye, and Brady has two smaller spots over his right eye. They can be adopted together or separately, but these two sure would love to go home together so they can have a playmate! They have only lived with other cats, but we think that due to their mild (for a kitten!) personalities, they would do fine in pretty much any home - with kids, dogs, and other cats. Moana is just the sweetest girl, and only about 2 years old. We are hoping to find him and his friend Mushroom calmer homes where they can be themselves. Mushroom and Gomez were adopted together, and certainly love each others' company, but do not necessarily need to go home together as long as it's the right fit. But if you're looking for two cats to love, consider adopting them both! They are shy at first but warm up and enjoy being pet and getting attention. In their previous home, Gomez and Mushroom were getting a lot of unwanted attention from the dogs and young children. Lola is a sweet 6 year old girl who is affectionate and easy going. There were some changes in her previous family that stressed her out, and now she is looking for a new home. Lola would do great in most homes - she previously lived with a large and small dog who she loved, and she doesn't mind the other cats in her free roam room here. She prefers to spend most of her time on a sunny windowsill! Molly is a beauty, it's insane to think that she was left behind by her previous "owners" when they moved! Their loss is our gain, as we are happy to be getting to know her since she came to us. Because of her past, it takes a little time for 4 year old Molly to warm up to people. She is a bit nervous here in the shelter; usually she can be find in a hidey hole, or a covered bed, but lately she has been more comfortable and has been walking around, a lot happier! Because of this, it may take a little time for her to re-acclimate into a home, but considering all she has been through, it makes sense that she will need some time to learn to trust people again. Wouldn't you, after being discarded like that? Luckily, after her "family" threw her out, she was brought into another rescue, and was even fostered for a few months where she lived with both a cat and small dog before coming to us! We think she would be fine in any home that is relatively calm, even with other pets, as long as her adopter gives her time to come out of her shell, and of course gives her more love than her previous "home"! We don't know how she is with kids, but we think older kids (double digits) would be best so they can give her space when she needs it. Poppy is as sweet as his name sounds, but while he is super affectionate with people, he needs to be the only cat in the home, so we are looking for a very special adopter for this special boy! 4 year old Poppy loves to seek attention from his people! When you first meet him here at the shelter, he will probably be curled up under some blankets, but reach out your hand and he'll immediately come out, rub against you, and "flop" around, begging for pets and attention! He loves people SO much - so it's a surprise that he's not a fan of other cats! Previously adopted with his brother Jack, he was bullying him a bit in the previous home, so we believe that Poppy would be happiest as an "only" cat. Despite this, we think he would do fine with most children - he will need a little space to acclimate but in just a short amount of time he will be your best friend, purring like a motor boat! He was exposed to a calm dog as a kitten, and we think he would likely do fine with most calm dogs. He does like to be the center of attention, and will actively seek you out to ask for love, so he would also be fine as a "one and only" kind of pet! Jack is one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet - just give him a little time to come out of his shell, and he'll be purring before you know it! Jack came to us with his brother, Poppy, as kittens, although as they grew older, Poppy began to bully Jack in the home. Despite this, Jack would love to go home with another cat - just not his brother! He loves hanging out with his kitty friends and would even get groomed by one of our older cats. As long as they have a personality similar to Jack - quiet, a little shy, but affectionate - we think they would do well. 4 year old Jack would love a quieter home - again, he would love to befriend another cat, and he was exposed to a calm dog years ago as a kitten. Audio is a sweet girl who was tired of living outside! We are so happy this beautiful lady is with us, but she's looking for her forever home! Audio is a little over a year old, and her whole family was living outside before they were brought in by a local municipal shelter, then most were transferred to us to find homes. Our handsome guy Jeff had a rough start living out on the streets for around , but now he is looking for his forever home! Jeff was part of a colony in Paterson, but when it came to TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) him, the rescue found he was just too friendly to put back! For almost half a year, Jeff was with a foster who had other cats and a small dog, and he did well there! But he still needed a home, so they transferred him to us. At the shelter, Jeff is a little scared, but he has only been with us for 2 weeks. Giving him some time to adjust will be important in his new home, but he will likely adjust a lot faster in a calm, stable home rather than a busy, noisy shelter. We think he would do well in most homes - remember that he lived with another cat and dog in his foster home, plus he does well with the cats in his free roam room here. As for kids, we think older children would be the best fit for him, somewhere around age 10 and up so they can give him his space while he adjusts. Charlie

Charlie, though not even 2 years old, has had quite a rough and complicated start to his life. He needs a patient, understanding owner who will love him through everything. Charlie is one of the most affectionate cats you'll ever meet! He loves to be pet, to snuggle, although he's not the biggest fan of being picked up (most cats aren't!). He hasn't been around kids before but would likely be fine because of how friendly he is. He really gets along with everyone! Charlie originally came to us with a housemate, another male cat, to be neutered at our low cost clinic because both cats were urinating around the house, and neutering typically solves this problem. However, it continued with both cats, and the owner made the decision to surrender them to us. We believed that being with the other cat was causing him to spray, so he went to a home all by himself. Even there, he continued to have this issue - he would use the litterbox, but he would also pee outside of the litterbox. His owner ruled out a UTI through their vet, but eventually made the difficult decision to bring him back to us. The odd thing is that he does not have this problem at the shelter at all. We aren't sure why he is urinating outside of the litterbox in his previous homes. Will he do it in his next home? There's no way to guarantee one way or the other. But we hope that his affectionate personality and beautiful looks will help him find the perfect family! Charlie is special, so we are hoping for a special home! You have never seen a cat as gorgeous as our Binx! His fur is so unique, it's impossible to explain in words - and he's a little camera shy, so the photos don't do him justice either! You just have to come in and meet him! Binx is a little over a year old and came to us with his friends Grayson and Goose. He is used to being around other cats but often keeps to himself. His favorite place is the hidey hole in our tall cat tree! In his previous home he had a lot of energy - he was often seen zooming around, chasing toys and playing! Our Goose has something unique about him - he was born with a front leg that was deformed. But it doesn't bother him, and it doesn't stop him from being affectionate and just an awesome cat! Goose is a little over a year old. His deformed leg only has one claw on it! However in his previous home he still ran around like a crazy kitty, having so much fun! You wouldn't even notice this foot if you weren't looking, and even then it seems to blend in with his fur. He loves kisses and doesn't mind being held, either! "Wow, what a fluffy cat!" That's what everyone who comes through our lobby says when they see this beauty - but that's not a giant fluffball, that's our beautiful Lulu! She's all fluff though, she only weighs about 13lbs, but looks so much bigger! Lulu came to us because her owner passed away, but she previously lived with an 8 year old child, another cat, and also a small dog! So we think she would do fine in any home. Ryder

Ryder is a sweet boy, only about 5 years old, who would just love to curl up next to you and relax after a tough life! We don't know much about his past, but the person who rescued Ryder believes that he was originally someone's pet, but sadly was dumped. He showed up one day in the colony she cares for, and was so friendly, it's clear he wasn't feral. Unfortunately, he lost one of his eyes and the other has some limited vision, but he gets along just fine! Ryder can be a little shy at first, but just remember, we don't know everything he's been through - and clearly, he's been through a lot. With a little time and patience, he quickly become a loving, affectionate cat who just wants a comfortable place to finally relax! He would do well in any calm home where he can open up and just be himself! Ryder does have FIV thanks to his time on the streets. Our cat counselors can tell you more, but essentially he has a compromised immune system. It's important to keep him healthy and have a good relationship with your vet, but FIV cats can live a normal life and it can only be transmitted to other cats through a deep wound - so since Ryder is so sweet, there's not much to worry about there! She may be 12 years old, and she may have had a rough life before coming to us, but she continues to be one of the most affectionate cats you'll ever meet! Brooke came to us through local animal control when she was dumped - can you believe that?! Although her previous humans abandoned her, we are determined to find her the most loving home possible for her golden years. Brooke is a little older, so she has been overlooked for months, but one thing is for certain - she should not have to die in a shelter because terrible people abandoned her. Not only will you like Mike - you'll LOVE him! This one year old handsome guy will purr his way right into your heart! Believe it or not, Mike was a stray, being taken care of with a few other cats. But when their caretaker passed away, they went to the Jefferson Pound, and soon, Mike found his way to Father John's! And we are so happy he did, because he is amazing! In fact, a big family might be good for him, because he just wants constant attention! Tilly is looking for a forever home of her own, now that her siblings have gone home! Tilly's previous owner's new housing did not allow pets, which is why she is now with us. Tilly previously lived with young children and dogs, and her siblings as well! She would do fine in most homes, as long as she gets a little time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Before you know it, she will be running around playing and just having so much fun! Here at the shelter, Tilly is a little nervous - she misses the home life! Jack and Poppy

Jack (grey and white) and Poppy (all grey) have their birthdays coming up and all they want is a home to call their very own! They will be 4 years old soon and just want a place to love. Jack and Poppy originally came to us as kittens, and were adopted, but sadly their adopter developed severe allergies and could no longer keep them. They were bonded as kittens, so we are hoping they can continue to live together! Poppy is on a special urinary diet, which is common for male cats. In the previous home, they both ate this food because it was easier, but Jack does not need to. Both boys are shy at first, but once they warm up to you they will be your best friends forever! They love to be pet and snuggle, and will curl up on your lap. Having a little bit of patience will pay off as they will truly form a deep and everlasting bond with you. As for dogs, they can be shy at first so a calm and quiet dog should be fine with them, and we think they would do best in a home with older kids, around 10 and up, who can go slow with them as they transition into your home. Willie

Our sweet Willie has had quite a life! Even though he's only a year and a half old, he has already been through a lot, so now he is ready for his forever home and to feel nothing but love. Willie showed up at a kind woman's house in the winter with an injured paw. She was able to take him in and take care of him so he was able to heal up nicely! Sadly, she wasn't in the position to take in another cat, though she would have loved to, but knew she had to do what was best for Willie and help find him a new home. This handsome guy is everything you could want in a cat - he doesn't mind sitting in your lap or being picked up, and is quite playful, too! We are still getting to know him at the shelter, but every day we see him showing a little more of his true colors as he gets more used to things here. Willie gets along with the other cats in his free roam room, and we think he would do fine with kids around age 10 and up. We aren't sure about dogs yet. Willie is waiting for his happily ever after! Chooch

Our poor Chooch is so scared at the shelter! He needs a forever home soon so he can be happy again and grow up with lots of love! In his previous home, Chooch was so affectionate, he would come when called and would even sleep with his humans at night! This playful boy would also love a puzzle food bowl - he would take his dry food out piece by piece to eat it! He certainly is a character. Even though he is scared here, he becomes your best friend the moment he sees that bag of treats in your hand! Once he sees that you're a friend, he loves to be pet and especially brushed! Chooch is only about a year and a half old, and came with his brother Coleman (who has since been adopted!) so now it is Chooch's turn! He gets along just fine with other cats, having grown up with his siblings, but we think dogs may be a little scary for him. He would also do best with older kids - 10 and up would make him the most comfortable. Since he likes other cats so much, we would want him to go to a home with another cat so that he has a friend to learn from and play with. Give Chooch the home he deserves, and don't let him spend any more time scared at the shelter! Sandy

Don't let his looks fool you - Sandy is a super loving cat who always seeks out attention! It may look like 3 year old Sandy as burned in a fire, and we thought originally that the issue was caused by fleas, but now out vet believes he has an autoimmune disorder. We are still running tests to get a more concrete diagnosis, but it doesn't stop him from wanting lots of love! Our adoption counselors will explain more when you come to meet him! Sandy is very laid back and we think he would do well in most homes. He tends to hang out in his comfortable beds (it probably feels good on his skin!), but he doesn't mind the other cats in his free roam room. We think he would do fine with most kids and dogs, as long as they can give him the space he needs. It is hard to believe that Sammie has such a sad story. This lovable boy used to be someone's cat - but they left him behind when they moved, as though he were disposable. That is why we are dedicated to finding him the BEST forever home possible! Sammie so so sweet and affectionate! He doesn't mind being held and loves everyone he meets. He does well in our free roam cat room - he and Baby get along very well as you can see! We think he would be fine with most cat-friendly dogs. And he previously lived with children, so he would be a great cat to fit in anywhere! One thing about Sammie is that he is missing most of his teeth! The only difference this makes is that we have him on a wet food only diet. Despite this, Sammie is only years old, so the lack of teeth really doesn't affect much! Simon may be a senior, but even at almost 14 years old he still has so much love to give! His face may appear grumpy at times, but that's one word you can't use to describe his personality, because he is anything but! Simon will come up to you as soon as you go into his room, asking to be pet, and he will usually hang out with his friend Pyewacket. He came to us with Pyewacket and Mandy, and really enjoys the company of other cats! We think Simon would do well in most homes; he's laid back and quiet most of the time, but definitely enjoys attention. He loves rubbing against your legs, asking for more attention and love! Simon is looking for the purrfect forever home to live out his golden years - he will give you plenty of love in return!
